Did you know that you can take a bus from Visby to Kappelshamn and spend three days hiking along beaches and limestone cliffs before re-entering the medieval city walls? Along the way, you can enjoy good food and sleep in comfortable beds every night.

Fårö, Furillen, Östergarn, Sudret, Ekstakusten... The hikes in this book have been selected with enjoyment in mind. The walking should be easy and comfortable on your feet, and the route should be simple to follow. Often, the sea serves as your guide throughout the day. Nor do you need to carry a heavy backpack—at most, a water bottle and your lunch for the day.

This book describes hikes ranging from one to four days. Several of the routes take you to places known only to local residents, while others present well-known landmarks and attractions from a fresh perspective. As a hiker, you can experience the rich birdlife of spring and autumn, admire the orchids of early summer, or search for fossils on a rugged stony beach in complete solitude—if you wish. New in this third edition is, among other things, the pilgrimage route St. Olav’s Way (S:t Olofsleden).

Author Eva Tivell is a journalist who has spent nearly 20 years hiking along the shores of Gotland, where she also lives. Photographer Cecilia Mellberg was born and raised on Gotland and has a unique talent for knowing exactly when to capture razorbills and the delicate Gotland anemone in photographs.
