This is a heavily revised edition of our popular book about the world's most hiked trails. In this edition of the book, the author has added the three stages leading out to Cape Finisterre on the Atlantic coast, as well as expanded the information about the shelters along the whole walk.

When you lace up your boots and begin your trek west towards Santiago de Compostela, you are also taking a step into the cultural history of the Iberian Peninsula. Through the centuries, millions of pilgrims have made the same trek, found the silence in the same chapel and quenched their thirst from the same springs.

In this book you can read about El Camino Francés, the pilgrimage route that starts on the French side of the Pyrenees in the small town of Saint Jean Pied de Port. This is the most popular and famous pilgrimage route in the world. El Camino has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1993.

Author Ulf Luthman has walked the 800 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela three times and knows well the pilgrim's needs. For example, you can always read how far it is to the next town or shelter, so you can decide whether to stay or hike a little further. Great importance is also placed on you as a hiker getting the historical and cultural background to what you see along the way, to enrich and deepen your experience.
