Avalanche! is written for you who love freeskiing and climbing snowy peaks, that is, for you who have to determine for yourself whether the slope in front of you is safe.

It will help you assess avalanche risks, reduce the risks you face, and save your ski buddies. An entire chapter is dedicated to skiers' risky behavior, as the topic has attracted great interest around the world in recent years.

The structure of the book is based on a risk model called the avalanche triangle, which was developed by the Canadian Avalanche Association.

The Finnish edition of the book, which is now being published, has added information on human factors related to avalanche accidents, new international rescue guidelines and support for decision-making. Three of the avalanche accidents described in the book are from Finland.

The author, Mårten Johansson, has worked in avalanche safety for the past 15 years. He heads the Åre Avalanche Safety Center, which collects information about avalanches and avalanche accidents.

The book has been peer-reviewed by Eeva Mäkelä and Jussi Muittari, who are our country's leading avalanche experts.
