This book wants to show the fantastic opportunities for high-class hiking that exist around Tyresta National Park. Just over two miles from Stockholm's inner city lies a primeval forest with qualities that have no equivalent in southern Sweden. Here you can hike for hours through the outcrops and the unique rift valley landscape, or walk along the coast and look for birds at some of Södertörn's finest beach meadows.

Many of the tour suggestions in the book take you off the most obvious and well-trodden paths – the hope is that the book will provide a broadened perspective and encourage new discoveries. In addition to the hiking tours, you will also get tips on a few bike tours, a couple of ski tours and a longer kayak tour. The authors also touch on the area's cultural history and guide you to botanically interesting places.
