When you lace up your boots and begin your trek west towards Santiago de Compostela, you are also taking a step into the cultural history of the Iberian Peninsula. Over the centuries, millions of pilgrims have made the same journey, found the silence in the same chapel and quenched their thirst in the same springs.

In this book you can read about El Camino Francés, the pilgrimage route that starts on the French side of the Pyrenees in the small town of Saint Jean Pied de Port. It is the best known and most popular pilgrimage route in the world. El Camino has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1993.

The author Ulf Luthman has walked the 800 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela three times and is familiar with the pilgrim's needs. For example, you can always read how far it is to the next town or the next hostel, so you can decide whether to stay or hike a little further.
