The skating map of Stockholm is the most advanced map ever made where the skater's needs are in focus.
The map has been developed in close collaboration with Mårten Ajne, one of Sweden's most experienced and knowledgeable skaters who, among other things, is the author of the reference work Stora boken om långfärdsskridsko and Skrinnaren's guide to Mälaren. Mårten has processed more than fifty years of ice and weather data and combined this with the accumulated experience within the skating clubs in Mälardalen. The result is presented here in the form of two maps on a scale of 1:30,000 of the most popular skating lakes in the vicinity of Stockholm. Extra great care has been taken on the lakes' current points and weak areas, known occurrences and outflows. The map also contains recommended starting locations, parking lots and suitable land passages.
We have come to the conclusion that the best material for a map is Tyvek®. It is made of a synthetic fiber that makes the map completely insensitive to water and very tear-resistant. A Tyvek map will not tear in the folds or lose color when you use it.
